Wedding Song - Grandpa Frank and Grandma Jane

They’re Just in Love (June 21, 1953)

1.
Jane heard music but no one was there,
Frank smelled blossoms but the trees were bare,
All at once they seemed to walk on air,
They wondered why, they wondered why.

2.
They kept walking in their sleep at night,
And it seemed they’d lost their appetite,
Stars that used to twinkle in the sky,
Were twinkling in their eyes,
They wondered why.

Chorus
They didn’t need analyzing
It is not so surprising
That they feel strange but very nice,
Their hearts go pitter-patter,
We know just what’s the matter,
Because we’ve been there once or twice.

Put Jane’s head on Frank’s shoulder,
She needs someone who’s older,
A rub down with a velvet glove.
There is nothing they can take
To relieve that pleasant ache,
They’re not sick, they’re just in love.

The Saga of Frank
(to the tune of “Long Ago & Far Away”)

Frank was born not far away,
In South Bend he did play,
And now his dream is here beside him.
Now Chicago is his home,
And never more he’ll roam,
Jane’s here at last.

On to college he did go,
Purdue instead of Coe
To be an engineer for “Stewart”.
Uncle Sam said “I need you”
And so the Navy dressed him all in blue.

Back to college Frank did start,
To look for Janie’s heart,
Alas, he was six years to early.
Then he taught a year or two,
While learning at Purdue—M.S. at last!

Work filled up another year,
And then he met his dear,
The dream he dreamed was not denied him.
Dates and then engagement came,
And that’s the story of how Frank won Jane.

The Saga of Jane
(to the tune of “Daisy”)

Let’s review the story of how they met,
July of ’51 is when the scene was set.
At Ravinia the music was playing
And each to himself was saying,
“I like him” and “I like her”
And this what did occur.

School days, in a daze
Janie returned to books
Frank was thinking, “Wonder how well she cooks”
But with two more years of schooling,
There was little time for fooling,
But he liked her, and she liked him,
At others they did not look.

Next came summer and they were a happy two,
Frank came calling to pitch a little woo.
They went swimming and dancing together
Regardless of the weather,
By August eight, each had a mate,
(Their engagement in ’52).

School days, more of a daze
‘Twas hard to study now.
Together, whenever, time would allow.
Many miles they were apart
And it nearly broke their heart,
Now degree in hand, together they stand,
Next comes the marriage vow.

Wedding bells, wonderful bells in June of ’53.
No more farewells, together they’ll always be.
Whatever the trouble or care
Frank and Jane will always share,
For she loves him, and he loves her
How happy we know they’ll be.

Mahzel

There’s a certain little word
Can mean a lot to you
You gotta have it, and if you got it,
There’s nothing you can’t do.

You’ve got to have a little Mahzel
Cause Mahzel means good luck
And with a little Mahzel
You’ll always have a buck.
And if you have no Mahzel
And though you’re on the ball,
You try and try and can’t get by,
You beat your head against the wall.

And so we wish to you today
All good should come your way
Good health, good will, and courage
Here’s our toast to see you through.
You gotta have a little Mahzel
And you never will get stuck
Cause with a little Mahzel
You’ll always have good luck.
