Relay For Life

Daniel and I were on the Relay for Life team in Johnston County this year. We volunteered for the event on Friday, May 29. Daniel's goal was to walk 26 miles but he beat that goal! He walked from 12:30pm till 9:30pm, which amounted to 32 miles! Way to go! Rachel worked selling roasted corn, steak sandwiches, hotdogs, fruits/veggies, and everything else under the sun from 4pm till 2am. Our team was the Johnston County School Nutrition Association and our slogan was "Help PRODUCE a cure for cancer." We had $1500 worth of produce donated to us thanks to Ward's Produce in Raleigh and a refrigerated truck donated thanks to Carolina Packers. We also had a lovely banner donated to us from Sign-A-Rama Charlotte that my parents made.

The relay was at Johnston Community College (JCC) which had a 1/2 mile track around a pond for the luminaries and walkers. We walked in honor of Grandma Jane and Sarah and in memory of my Uncle Bob. We both really enjoyed contributing our small piece to a greater cause. We look forward to doing it again next year (maybe without the 32 miles).

Let It Snow and Happy Inauguration Day!

Well, we in Raleigh got about 6 inches of snow today. Daniel and I both didn't have to go to work so we were able to play in the snow today. It was great fun! This is the first snowfall we've had in a long time and the first one Daniel and I have shared. We enjoyed having a snowball fight and making snowangels. I just hope that we don't have to drive to work tomorrow morning in the ice!
